Our Magical Stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai — For Free ✨🌴

We recently stayed at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa completely on points… and I genuinely fear I may never love another hotel as much as this one.

It was pure magic.

From the moment you walk into the open-air lobby—with ocean views and tropical breezes—you feel like you’ve arrived somewhere special. The resort has a stunning multi-level pool complex (complete with a lazy river and saltwater lagoon), direct access to Poipu Beach, incredible on-site dining, and beautifully landscaped grounds that make you want to slow down and soak it all in.

It’s the kind of place where you sip coffee at sunrise, watch the waves crash from your balcony, and end the night under palm trees listening to live Hawaiian music.

Now let’s talk about how you can replicate this 👇

Step 1: Earn Chase Ultimate Rewards Points

I started by opening a credit card that earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points. Hyatt is a transfer partner of Chase, which means you can move your Chase points directly to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio and book award nights.

Two of my favorite cards that earn these points are:

Step 2: Use the Referral Strategy

After I was approved, I referred my husband to the same card. I earned the referral bonus, and once he completed his minimum spend and received his welcome offer, we combined our points.

Pooling points is where this strategy really shines.

What the Math Looks Like

If you open the Sapphire Preferred, refer a partner, and combine points, you could end up with around 180,000 points total.

During off-peak pricing, rooms at the Grand Hyatt Kauai can cost as little as 35,000 points per night, which means you could book 5 nights.

And let’s be clear: Kauai is beautiful year-round. I truly don’t believe there’s a bad time to visit the island.

If you open the Ink Business Preferred instead, refer a partner, and combine points, you could be sitting at around 236,000 points after bonuses and referral points post.

That’s nearly 7 nights at this incredible resort.

Our Stay (And a Little Bonus)

We stayed for 4 nights, which honestly felt like the perfect amount of time—long enough to relax, explore the island, and still leave wanting more.

And yes… we also flew there for nearly free.

I’ve linked a separate blog post where I break down exactly how we book our flights on points and fly for nearly free, too.

If Hawaii has been on your bucket list, this is one of my favorite ways to make it happen without paying resort-level cash prices. 🌺✈️
